“Artists’ Monologues”, Piece 1 “Symphony by Gunning”
This piece is the first in a series of four Svitlana is now making. Having artistic ambitions herself, Svitlana has always been intrigued by other artists; what inspires them and how they find an unique voice, whether it be visual, musical or expressed in any other way. It isn’t surprising that the first subject for her research was her husband, composer Christopher Gunning. She followed the creator to the top of Pen-y-Van, which you can see in the background of the piece, both of them finding their own inspirations silently - very often she was asked not to talk so as not to interfere with his music. She wanted the piece to be poetic and “float” like music - and to engender memories of Christopher’s musical works and the inspirations for them.
